Help us save the lives of wildlife by donating to For Heaven's Sake Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation. We would truly appreciate it. |
WELCOME!
Washington State is known for its wildlife! To preserve these animals the State and the Federal government have laws to assist in this effort, but laws can’t do everything to protect the creatures that have learned to live in a diminished habitat brought about by human growth and development. That is why there are special organizations such as For Heaven’s Sake Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation (FHSARR). Please click on our Sponsor's page to help an animal in need. We would greatly appreciate it!
Every year many animals are injured or orphaned and need to be rescued and cared for so they can return to their natural environment. These are wild animals that are not to be kept as “pets” but to live in their natural habitat so we can continue to appreciate their existence. American history is filled with how our survival depended on the abundant wildlife that could be hunted and trapped for food and clothing. Today people do most of their “hunting” for food in a grocery store and for clothing in a department store, and hunting has become a sport that by law is controlled to conserve our wildlife. Consequently, there is a greater need to join the people who care about our wonderful community of wildlife so we can continue to enjoy them, learn about them, and care for the injured and orphaned. We believe wildlife to be part of God’s creation and therefore, important and valuable.
FHSARR is licensed by the State to rescue and rehabilitate wildlife under specific guidelines, laws, and within our capabilities and resources. Some of the more common animals we temporarily adopt are squirrels, rabbits, fawns and raccoons - especially in Spring. We also help fox, opossums, skunks, coyotes, and other wildlife in need. We have to know what and how to feed them, and when they are injured, how to treat them. We work with local veterinarians to help us and treat what is beyond our capability. Every animal presents different challenges. Various animals require different diets and different milk formulas for babies as well as diverse foods for adults. There are a variety of diseases and some animals, such as raccoon, require different handling practices and precautions in order to protect humans and other animals. Cages and enclosures must be made from different materials depending on the type animal and the sanitation required. For example, we would never put a raccoon in a wooden cage because the cage cannot be sanitized properly to destroy raccoon roundworm. There is more to rehabilitating wildlife than is known by most of the general public…there is more than just love for animals.
As a non-profit organization, we seek donations and volunteers. Rescue and rehabilitation can be costly and time consuming. The rewards are great when we are successful in getting an injured or orphaned animal healthy and able to return to its natural environment. It is our mission to provide quality care and treatment in a safe and secure, nurturing environment while preparing wildlife for release into their natural habitat. As a volunteer at FHSARR, you will learn to practice proper precautions for yourself and animals. We seriously require volunteers to follow the protocol for each animal and the facility in general because it can be dangerous to you, others, and the animals if protocols are not followed. Volunteers are provided detailed instructions on what has to be done for successful rehabilitation and the safety of all. Please read more about volunteering within our site.
For heaven’s sake ….we care for wildlife! We will continue to do so under established laws and guidelines in Washington and with caring compassion in the best interest of every creature entrusted to our care.
